REACT Operations

mctx Weather watch

SkyWarn® is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service’s (NWS) severe weather spotting program with nearly 290,000 trained volunteers nationwide. Since the late 1960s, trained SkyWarn® spotters have helped support the NWS’ primary mission of protecting life and property through the issuance of severe weather warnings.

During severe weather events, our SkyWarn trained spotters will deploy to predetermined locations throughout Medina County, observe and report to NOAA & The NWS.

Monitoring during emergencies

During ANY emergency situation in Medina County, our Team Members will be monitoring ALL FRS and GMRS frequencies for distress calls.

Many families have some type of FRS or GMRS radio(s) in their home (pictured left).  If cell service is unavailable and somebody calls for HELP on any GMRS or FRS channel our trained Team Members will attempt to talk to, obtain information from and call Emergency Responders to assist them.

fire watch

Within the last several years Medina County Residents have seen the devastation caused by large fires in our community.

During Burn Ban and Red Flag Warning periods our Team Members will be in the field, monitoring and reporting any type of unauthorized burning to the Sheriff's Office and/or Local Fire Departments.

Preplanned events

All pre-planned events in Medina County have some type of involvement from City or County officials.  This is to ensure the safety of event go-ers and anybody who may be near the event.  Our Team has worked many events over the last year and served as the extra eyes and ears for public safety officials at these gatherings.  Our operations are always "observe and report" in nature and limited involvement with the public is required.

public awareness

One of the most important tasks we have is letting the community know who we are, what we do and how we can help.  Setting up at National Night Out and other similar local events allows our members to meet members of our community and answer questions they might have about our REACT Team.
